Worst hospital experience
Hey guys how’s everyone!?
So I am almost close to my due date and I thought that I should right about what happened to me on October 6, 2017 at around 9 pm.
Well let me start from the beginning.
That day my Husband dropped me off off at my cousin Kelly’s house. I went over to hang out with her and we went to a consignment sale, which by the way was awesome. I found cloth diapers (new) for like 8 bucks and below I couldn’t believe so amazing.
We were only there for a little bit not even an hour. Like, I didn’t walk that much, plus I had water with me all day. I was sweating more than usual though, but didn’t really think it was something bad. I’m sure you ladies would sweat more than usual when you were pregnant.
Well anyway we left and went to a restaurant where I ate what I would usually eat: palomilla rice beans and maduros. After, they were going to take me home. We were in Miramar so we were like an hour away from my house. I was in the car and I was fine at first, but then I started getting some cramping.
Midwife suggested to go to the hospital
I thought it was normal at first just the Braxton Hicks. Then they started to get tighter and stronger, and they started getting a pattern. So I got worried something was wrong. They were really strong in my back and would go to the front. So I decided to call my midwife, I told her what I was feeling and she said that the best thing to do would be to go get checked out.
We were almost to my house when she said that thankfully we live right next to the hospital. I called my husband and my mom so they could come. I got to the hospital, the pain was there somewhat tolerable, but still painful. They called labor and delivery for someone to come get me.
The nurses came and asked who my caregiver was and I told them, my Midwife.
That’s when it went bad.
They started telling me and why did you do it with a Midwife do you know anyone who has done it with a Midwife, if I have read the risk and complications of delivery. I was like, yes I have and yes I know people who have done it at home. They were like well I don’t understand why you would do it because she can’t do an emergency c-section she can’t help you right now, she’s not even here.
They were just being so rude and disrespectful about me doing it at home. Finally, they got me to the room by then I was already stressed out. Then the nurse starts telling me: don’t touch your belly. I was already getting annoyed by then! And then she was like, well if you have to go into labor you have to got to the main Baptist Hospital because we aren’t equipped to handle an early labor and a premie.
Annoying unnecessary questioning!
Then she started again with why I was going to do it at home.
She asked me if I was taking my prenatal vitamins and I was like no she asked me why and I told her because I don’t want to.
Then I told her well my gynecologist is located in the main hospital. She was like, well if you have one why did you stay with him? I told her: well at the beginning I was with him and then I asked him if he thought it was okay for me to go to a Midwife because of my history and he said it was perfectly fine.
That’s why I am not with him. She stayed quiet. By then they had put on a monitor to hear his heart and see my contractions. I told her I had been having Braxton Hicks. And then she goes ahead and says well are you taking anything for these Braxton Hicks you “say” you are having.
Like the whole time I was there she was treating me like an idiot.
She then proceeds to say well I have been a nurse for almost 36 years so I have seen so many things that happen during delivery. In my head I was like, wow you just confirmed exactly why I wouldn’t give birth in a hospital. You are basically telling me, you have seen a lot of things go wrong in a hospital, where you are supposedly telling me would be safer than my own home. Wow thats great good job hahaha.
What ever by then my husband got there so I just started talking to him and ignoring her. He eventually noticed how annoying she was. And, don’t get me wrong, she was nice but she was like trying to push me into a hospital birth by bullying me and that’s not how it works.
Thankfully all is well
I got my cervix checked and it was closed thankfully and contractions stopped they said that it was that I got dehydrated so they put me on an IV. She kept saying well you didn’t drink enough water. I was like lady I had water all day today. It was probably because I had been sweating all day non stop.
The water I was drinking I was losing through my sweat. I didn’t think that would affect me. When I got the IV I obviously had a bunch of fluid in me so I got the need to go the bathroom like twice while I was there.
She then tells me, you see you were dehydrated because if you weren’t, you wouldn’t be going to the bathroom so often. Again in my head, I was like okay I’m pregnant my baby’s head is right on my bladder, your pumping me full of fluids. I’m going to need to pee. Like really. Whatever by then I was ready to leave and by then my husband and I realized that we definitely did not want to have a hospital birth, or at least not there.
Never again will I return that hospital, worst hospital experience
I finally got released around 1130 pm and boy was I happy to leave! I immediately prayed and also told my son that I will be patient and wait for him. That he still had 3 weeks to go. And then he could come whenever he wanted! Yay!
I was so happy to be leaving that place. Thankfully it was nothing wrong. I stopped contracting and hoping that I won’t until it’s time for him to come out.
My message to moms!
I am so blessed to be having a home birth and for those of you ladies that feel bullied while you’re in a hospital in labor and delivery please speak up! This is your birth and you have rights. Please don’t let them tell you what to do because ultimately you carried that baby for 9 months, not them, you are the one feeling the pain, not them.
So please, please, be brave and take control of your birth because it is one of the most sacred times in your life and it should be special and beautiful.
And do your research!
- How long you can labor after you water breaks before a c-section?
- What methods to induce naturally?
- What you can do while in the hospital instead of just laying down on the bed?
Anything like this ladies, and also please don’t think because you are young, you don’t know your body, or anything. You still have a voice and know your body better than anyone and what is best for you and your baby.
Please there are so many essential oils you can use while pregnant. Just make sure they are natural. I have been using them. If you want some here’s how you sign up:
Awesome just want to share what for me was a horrible experience in a hospital. Have an amazing day and for those of you who are pregnant an awesome and beautiful delivery!
A birth full of joy and happiness how it should be and not stress and bullies!
