Unschooling is what works for us. What is it? Will let you in on a little glimpse of our unschooling life!
“School” life for Jas Flower has looked very very different throughout her 6 short years of life.
Miami 2013-2014
Jas was 10 months baby when I started working part-time a Waldorf-inspired daycare. For half a school year we work in the after school care and filling in for the teacher once in a while. It really helped me learn about the Waldorf philosophy and implement what worked for us. Jasmin loved it, she got to play with friends and participate where she could with the activities!
Besides the school, there were plenty of like-minded mommy playgroups in Miami. I’m still very good friends with our mommy friends! MyGym, breastfeeding groups, and postpartum meetings were heaven!
Panama 2014-2015
Panama was a whole other experience! We lived and worked right on the beach! It was decompressing as well as life-enhancing. Talk about beach life! We literally walked to work in flip flops with our bathing suits on basically alll the time! Horseback riding, surfing, and Montessori-inspired school was life.
I was the daycare teacher for almost half a school year, it was challenging as I was pregnant with Noah. The atmosphere, the support, the kiddos, al made it way worth our while. Jasmin got to participate in the activities and made lots of little friends.
We even ventured out to a town called Boquete. WE camped out at a hostel, rock climbed and hiked while we were there. For more about our life in Panama click here!
UAE 2015-2019
Almost 4 years! UAE has been the longest spot we have lived so far. Homeschooling here has been a bit tricky. Raising Noah up to 2 years and Jas til 5, were the easy years. More kids their age and other expat moms creating activities made things super fun for them. The dynamic changed once I was pregnant again AAAND Jas entered first grade realm. Less kiddos her age and an exhausted mama, made for more stay-at-home time and less venturing out.
WE did however, go on road trips and camping and my husband stepped up too! Read more about Sri Lanka, UAE and Camping here!
