Spinning babies workshop and my breech experiences
It’s actually something much different than what it sounds! So far when I tell people I went to a spinning babies workshop people ask me if I’m manually turning a baby (external version ) or imagine me flipping infants in the air!
What is Spinning Babies?
Checkout The Spinning Babies website and find out all that entails this incredible wealth of knowledge.
“Spinning Babies is an approach to optimize the physical relationship between the bodies of the mother and baby for the easing of childbirth. Spinning Babies is a new paradigm that takes clues from baby’s position and station for natural, physiological solutions. Try it in any birth setting, childbirth program, or pain management plan.
Align the uterus so baby can curl and enter the pelvis as a small, compact – and more active participant.
Release tight ligaments or muscles which may pull or twist may relieve pelvic pain now or discomfort during birth.
Support what’s loose in womb or pelvis with a pregnancy belt.
Open the pelvis to let baby move down during the birth process.
Share birth wisdom with parents and providers in ever deepening layers of understanding birth
Begin with activities to support the range of motion and alignment, to reach a healthy mix of mobility and stability for the pelvis. Comfort and function return to the body.”

I believe childbirth can be instinctual, pleasurable, and easier. How can I believe this when there is so much fear and talk about pain in labor? Why, some ask, would 1 in 3 American women birth by cesarean if birth was so natural?
Watching birth transform parents, powerfully and yes, sometimes pleasurably, for over 30 years, I’ve seen how helping fetal position and flexion lead to rotation and progress in labor. SpinningBabies.com is for parents, providers, doulas, and childbirth educators. Online since 2002.
My Experience with Spinning Babies
I first heard of spinning babies from my midwife, Sheila Simms Watson. Sheila encouraged me to checkout the website and do some of the activities to make space for baby Jasmin to flip from breech to head down. Here’s the blog post sharing those details, check it out…!
With my second pregnancy I wanted to prepare as much as I could with all the knowledge and wisdom gained through my first pregnancy and after. Of course that included the spinning babies activities!!! You are welcome to read both birth stories, they were both incredibly quick, amazing births!
I emailed Gail after Jasmin’s birth, thanking her for her wisdom offered on her website, and she actually wrote back and shared our story on her blog! Check it out!<<<
Spinning babies and doula-ing
As I’ve shared before in previous posts, my pregnancy and birth journeys have inspired a passion in me, a passion for mamas, babies and birth! Because of my youngest still needing me, I haven’t been able to attend births yet, so I’m doing the next best thing…Gathering! Gathering as much information, skills, wisdom, anything I possibly can to improve the ways I can be of service in the birth world.
Naturally, when I heard of a Spinning Babies workshop being offered near me I jumped at the opportunity!
I’m so grateful to have been able to partake in this class, to have met Gail Tully and receive her wisdom, and to have been able to meet all the wonderful birth workers in the Middle East!!!
