Living abroad: life out of the States and toddler regressions

Posted on December 8, 2014March 9, 2016 by Jenny Pena

Our family is out of the States!

I don’t think we’ve been out long enough to be considered ex-pat but here we are. Definitely becoming beach bums. As I type I can feel my fingers still a little bit like raisins! And rashes, bruises, and soreness from laying on the board. I must master sitting on the board next…learning to surf is not easy. More on that on my next post!

Baby Jasmin is loving it here 🙂

Jas is definitely enjoying herself out here. It is much easier to entertain her since we can just walk out our door and be on the beach. There is also a playground she enjoys. and plenty of children and animals. She likes pointing to the mountains and saying “Montana” in Spanish…and saying “micos en los arbors en las montanas”. Yes there are monkeys in the trees in the mountains (which are more like hills).

Nursing more, slight potty regression, and biting her nails

Not everything is sunshine and butterflies though… she is asking to nurse a lot more often during the day than normal. I’m being lenient about this since I know she’s in a bit of a transition, moving to a new place and all. Yes this 2 year old is still nursing, get over it! She also wet the bed 3 nights in a row and had been wetting herself while we’re on the sand. So I have to be more on it than usual as she isn’t telling me, I have to offer to take her so she can remember to go. Biting her nails is something new. Since we got here she has her hands in her mouth a lot. She’s shy when people talk to her and she’s excited when she likes something, so hands in her mouth…? I remind her not to so let’s see how that goes.

Outdoor kitchen, gas stove, cheap fruits and veggies

We have our own little fridge in our room plus another we share in the outdoor kitchen. Learning how to use the gas stove was easier than I thought. I’m not much of a pyro so that’s the scary part, putting a lit match close to the gas freaks me about a bit! But we did it, we made pasta, boiled some corn on the cob and potatoes for tuna salad. Nothing was burnt though I could’ve left the corn on for a bit longer. Only the stove turned off and i was too nervous to turn it back on! Rudy has had fun making his juices and smoothies…yummmm!

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. Proverbs 3:13,17-18
