Are you eating the bread life and joy? Or faint and weary?
Let’s read the following verse and figure out what we can do to be ‘eating the bread’ that gives us the results we need. Let’s do this!
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Hebrews 12:3
Reminders to focus on Christ and eating the bread of life
Focus on what He did for us. His suffering, no matter how hard the things in our life can be, He went through worse FOR YOU! A fresh dose of this perspective helps me so much when my mind wants to always start imagining the worst, wallowing in the struggles, and spiraling into more devastation.
Reading this verse in Hebrews, or reminding myself that THIS exact verse was given to us to remind us NOT to fall into the rabbit hole that makes us FAINT AND WEARY IN OUR MINDS.
What power do our minds have and how is that like ‘eating the bread’?
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Isaiah 26:3
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
Proverbs 17:22
If our mind grows faint and weary how is that going to affect our day and life?
What do the 4 verses above have in common?
What are they telling us about the effects of what we choose to focus on. We focus or give our thoughts on what makes us feel a certain way, which can be for life or death. Focusing on The Most High, Christ, and even joy, can bring us life, peace, wisdom and all things good. We are choosing what we eat? Bread of life or more weariness? ‘Eat’ as in, what are we filling ourselves up with?
What are we seeking out?
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:6
Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” 35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
John 6:32-25
Christ tells us to seek TMH and himself for LIFE. Through the daily struggles we can be strong and overcome. Things can come up but we won’t grow faint and weary. Yes we can feel pain, cry, want to take matters into our own hands, but we have the reassurance that we have already been provided for.
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
John 16:24
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
John 15:11
For the joy!!!
Looking unto Christ the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
Our joy is so important to The Most High that we have been given the way out of all sorrow. He wants us to have life and ABUNDANTLY. Of course we are going to feel suffering and pain and even depression. I wrote a bit more about that, click here.
Now we know, it’s a matter of how we are going to make that our priority too.
