Home-made Flea Fix for Dogs!
Hey guys what up? So while I was living in Nashville we adopted a dog, her name is Negra (“black” in Spanish). She’s a black lab mixed with a pit bull. I also have another dog that I have had for 3 years, Terry!
While we were in Nashville they got fleas and it was really bad. I don’t like using a lot of chemical based items. So I decided to look for natural remedies to get rid of fleas. This what I found out.
Lemon apparently just draws them out and makes them jump off the dogs. Apple cider vinegar and salt also help.
What you will need:
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup of Apple cider vinegar
- 10 drops of Young Living Lemon essential oil
- 2 lemons sliced in half
- Salt
- A comb
- Empty spray bottle (optional)
This is what I did:
We drew a bath for my dogs if you don’t have a bath I will tell you another way later! I put all the ingredients in the bath except the salt and lemon slices. I put my little one in because he was the one that was infested with fleas.
We started pouring water and as soon as we started pouring water all those babies started jumping and coming out we had to kill them all so many we used the comb to brush his hair. We also grabbed the lemon halves put salt on that and him and rubbed him with the lemon. They started coming out even more.
If you don’t have a tub or dog is too big:
My big dog obviously is too big for the tub but she likes it so she stayed in. For those of you who do not have a tub or dogs don’t like being in the water. This is what you can do.
Put all the ingredients in a spray including the salt except the lemon slices and a little bit of water to it. And just spray your dog with it and comb the fur. Make sure that you are in an a closed place where you can kill the fleas or outside where they will jump off and stay off.
Not somewhere they can jump into your carpet or clothes. Gross. You will treat these baths as needed until there is no more!
Try not to do the bath to close together because washing a dog too often isn’t good for them either. So make sure you space your baths out if you bathe them. If you just use the spray I would say it’s okay, I did it with my dog and he’s fine and flee free.
Fleas in the carpet!
Unfortunately where we lived in Nashville we had carpet, so they got in our carpet so nasty! We found a powder in Home Depot and I’m sure it’s in any hardware store big like that, it’s called Diatomaceous Earth. It’s a powder that you put on the rug and leave for a little and vacuum it. The instructions are on the bag. That definitely helped us a lot too.
You said so many came out and you had to kill them all…did the lemon slices and salt kill them all? Or did you do something else?
Hey how are you we were in the bath with my small dog so we had to squish them between our nails but they are so weakened by the lemon everything that when they would jump they would fall into the water so it was super easy 🙂
