The truth is, beginner blogger, you’ll never look at any site the same after you start blogging!
Deciding to blog, a bit about us
We decided to blog…well…it was my husbands idea I’ll just be honest! At first it was to share our personal testimonies with going from atheist to believers. Until our first child was born! Then it was about sharing the miracle of birth! Read her birth story and you will understand why…
Knowledge gained
It has been five years since we began blogging. Even if you are doing it just as a hobby and not fulltime income, there are still some major misconceptions to beginning, trust me, I know..I learned the hard way!
Thankfully I had someone show me the ropes and then youtube and wordpress support forums became my good friends! I’m only choosing five because I don’t want to bombard you with everything, you’ll see along the way of your blogging journey.
So here it goes….!
5 Beginner Blogger Common Misconceptions:
1. It’s Easy!
Sorry, no, no it’s not. I’m talking to the average person who has no web design knowledge and who’s used to journaling in a notebook. If the most web success for you has been creating and being active on social media, then blogging is going to throw you a real nice curveball!
Tip: take it slow, soak up all the blogging gurus info, watch youtubes channels, be easy on yourself, DO NOT RUSH!
2. I have to invest too much money
Good news! No you don’t! Look for all the free options.
Decide whether or not your going to monetize your blog. There are really great FREE themes plugins, widgets, etc. etc.
3. It’s not time consuming
AS in you don’t need to invest time? Yea ok, wrong!
You will not rest until you figure out how to fix an issue. It’s quite surprising how time has no hold on you when you’re staring at that screen clicking away, adding a header, changing font, adding media, figuring out categories and menus…and on and on.
Tip: keep lists with tasks, sites, resources, and questions. Tackle each thing little by little. Yes it can become overwhelming.
4. I can’t make my blog public until I have content
It’s ok to announce your newly created blog with only one post on it. Do make sure it’s appealing and not a complete skeleton. Only as far as posts, it’s ok to have only a welcome post or “Yay we are finally open and ready to post”. This is actually really ok because then as you publish content your followers will be growing with you, creating more loyalty and comraderie.
5. The traffic will come automatically
Even public figures with thousands of followers rely on good marketing to get the word out about their new blogs or sites! Us small timers have to do all our own work: sharing on social media, joining groups and link-up parties, endlessly posting and sharing on every place possible!
Alright so there you have it.
What’s the take-away?!
Don’t kick yourself in the but about it!
The struggles will make the success that much more joyous!
HAPPY BLOGGING!
Proverbs 24:3-4
Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
I can identify with most of these. It sure is hard work.
Hi Rose, yes I identify with all of them ! I think most Beginner bloggers do! Keep it up it only gets better 🙂
