Waterbirth Story
This probably one of the most emotional blogs I am going to write!!
My birth story an amazingly painful one! All worth it!!!
It all started Nov 5, on Sunday. I had been leaking all day but really didn’t pay much attention to it. For like a week and half I had been having “false” or early labor! So we were like, ehh whatever, not going to get excited because nothing ever happens hahaha, boy was I wrong!
My husband and I went to bed around 10:30pm, we laid in bed for a little. For some reason my husband kept asking me if I was ok and I was like, yeah. He asked like about 4 more times all of which I answered yes haha! At around 11:10pm he hugged me and we cuddled for a little. Then around 11:18 he kissed me and turned over. I got a little comfortable and then all of a sudden I felt a pop and a gush of water I told my husband my water broke he jumped out of bed and turned on the light! As soon as I stood up all the water came out!
My water broke! Call Sheila, the midwife!
I called Sheila and she asked if it was clear I told her yes! She told me okay, well, just go to bed and sleep while you can and just wait for the contractions. I said ok, but first I went to shower. As I was heading to the shower I got a contraction- it hurt but it was bearable!
They started coming every 6 mins! For like 30 mins I showered, I bounced on the yoga ball for a little, and then when I was going to go into bed the contractions started hurting a lot more. It literally went from like a pain of 3 to an 8 and were every 3 mins for about a minute! We waited a little bit to see if it continued. It did so we called Sheila again, she said- okay see if for the next 40 mins it continues with that pattern. It did and the contractions got harder!
Birth Team arrives
By then I had already told my mom and brother to come! They were my birth team! I called my sister so that she can be on alert! Thank God it was day time where she lives, that way she could be there through skype, and so could her babies.
So I got in the shower again to see if that helped with the pain it did help me calm down. My husband got in and let me lean on him for a little bit. After I got out, my mom and brother had just gotten there! I was in lots of pain, my mom jumped into action and started like pressing on my lower back and hips that helped a lot.
Labor love and birth pool
My mom told them to start building the birth pool! But we didn’t have a pump, thankfully my brother had one in the car!!! So they started doing that. While they pumped, I got the urge to go to the bathroom… no bueno… my stomach was emptying itself out.
When I got up they were already filling it with water and I forgot to tell them to put the liner for the pool! Thankfully they had only filled it a little bit so they just put the liner on top of the water that was already there. When it was full I got in! It felt so good!!! Around 12:40am my husband called my Midwife again and she asked if I wanted her to come, and I said yes. As I was talking to her I got a contraction. So she stayed on the phone to listen to my contraction and once it was over she said, okay well I’ll be on my way.
Midwife arrives
I was still in the water when she got here! She asked how long I had been in there- I told her about 30-40 mins. She said okay well let’s do a couple more contractions in there and then we will go to the bed or somewhere else. As I was getting out of the pool she said we should go to the bathroom so that I could pee because I hadn’t yet.
As I was sitting on the toilet I said, I feel like throwing up. As soon as I said that, I threw up in my mouth hoping that someone would bring me something and no one did! The urges kept coming and it all just came out on the bathroom floor gross!!!!! I hate throwing up because I feel like I’m going to like die haha sorry for the exaggeration!
Labor is messy, and sometimes get rest or dance
Well finally Sheila put a garbage can in front of me and honestly I wanted to keep throwing up because it felt good, it kept my mind off the contractions! I was throwing up for about 7 mins! Once I was done my Midwife suggested I try to lay down. I was laying down and my contractions got like 10 mins apart. My body was giving me a break, I was able to sleep through every 10 mins break of contractions.
Everyone went to rest too. I got up once to go to the bathroom and when I was going back to bed didn’t feel like laying down. So I started to do a little weird dance step and just love my body. It just came from no where and my husband asked if he could do it with me so he let me grab him by the neck and started dancing with me it actually helped a lot.
The urge to push!
About an hour later, it was around 3 in the morning by then, they came back and with rage! They were so strong I kept wanting to push! I got premature urge to push!! I couldn’t take it I would push and it felt so good!!! Finally I told my husband, I can’t take it anymore tell her ( Midwife) to come!!
So she came and checked me and told me I still had a little more to go! She told me- I need you to fight the urge to push because if you push, you can make the cervix swell and it will just be worse! So she said to blow as if I were blowing out a candle!
Some contractions I could, others I couldn’t and I would push! I started literally roaring like a lion or bear!! It helped though! She checked me again, which by the way is very painful. She said- okay if I can get the cervix behind his head we will be good. Sheila warned it could hurt and boy did it! She was able to put it behind his head and said- okay let’s see if it stays so she waited a little bit, checked and it stayed wooohooo!!!
Laboring on!
So I asked her can I start pushing!!! She said yes!! I think it might have been like 4:25 am I started pushing that was the best feeling ever she told to put my hand down and feel his head! OMG so awesome, that helped me want to keep pushing! My brother came and said- you’re not getting in the pool? And so Sheila also asked me -you want to get in? I was like no, because I was so comfortable. Then my brother asked – you sure it’s going to be a lot better. So I asked Sheila, would it be easier and she was like yeah it will be, so I said okay!
Getting into the birth Pool
Sheila said – okay just wait a minute, two more contractions here and we will move. After two contractions she said – okay if we are getting into the pool now is the time! So they helped me move. Wow did that hurt because he was so low!! So I got in the pool and pushed for about ten minutes. Felt the ring of fire.
I gave one or two hard pushes and Sheila took him out wooohoooo best feeling ever!!
He was purple but I wasn’t panicking because I had already read that was normal! Sheila grabbed him and sucked everything out of his mouth and nose!! So awesome she is amazing and started rubbing him to make him cry and pass him to me!
That was the most amazing feeling holding him! So great!! I was crying! Love at first sight does exist! It happens when you hold and look into your newborn babies eyes and all you can feel is love and happiness!!
He finally started crying and hard! I was so happy to have him in my arms. I couldn’t believe he was here what an amazing day!!!
Placenta
I started feeling a couple more contractions and told Sheila. She said yeah it’s time to push the placenta out. I asked -can I push she said yeah. I pushed once and the placenta came out a little bit was still in me, she asked me to push once more and I did and all of it was out. She waited for the placenta to stop pulsating and then she had my husband cut the umbilical cord!
So happy. We got out of the pool and onto the bed just holding him and loving him! My husband also held him and he did some skin to skin with his Poppa! So wonderful! I fed him! I’m only breastfeeding and thank God he’s good at it. At first he was having a little trouble but now he’s a pro!
Sheila started her newborn exam just weighing him measuring how long he is. And his heart and lungs and temp. She did the same with me. She left around 11:30 am.
And now my son is 2 weeks old and is the most wonderful baby boy anyone could ask for!
Please welcome
